Where Did the Word “Transgender” Come From?

Word transgender wrapped in trans flag

The world “transgender” has appeared in our culture from as early on as 1965. But how much do you actually know about the history of the word? Angelica Ross, who is one of the many stars of the FX hit show POSE centering around NYC’s African-American and Latinx LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming ballroom scene in the 1980’s, explains the history of the word and how it came to be the one we use today. Ross herself identifies as a trans woman and began her acting career only 4 years ago!
