New Zealand’s Gun Reform Push
On March 15th, 2019 a white supremacist open fired a semi-automatic weapon at two mosques in Christchurch New Zealand killing at least 50 people and injuring many more. New Zealand’s gun laws were already by no means laxed, but compared to the U.S., their vetting process was a little more complex. But it still wasn’t enough to stop something like this from happening, so what did they do? Well for starters, they made big changes, and fast. Their Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, made the announcement that: “Every semi-automatic weapon used in the terrorist attack on Friday will be banned in this country,” less than a week after the incident.
