LatinX Heritage Month Feature: Remembering Bartolina Sisa
Bartolina Sisa was probably one of the most badass Latinx women to ever exist. Not only did she realize the colonial systems worked against the indigenous and native people of upper Peru, but her and her husband Tupac Katari set up military camps across modern day Bolivia and even ambushed the city of La Paz in 1781. The rebillion was some 40,000 strong and lasted for 184 days. Although she was eventually betrayed, captured, and tortured, Sisa NEVER gave up information. After her death on September 5th, 1782, her memory lives on through International Indigenous Women’s Day which was created in her honor.
