The Bright Future Of Queer Latinxs In Media
On Sunday October 27th, 2019, Hollywood’s finest gathered together to honor their mark in LGBTQ film and television at The Outfest Legacy Awards Gala held in Los Angeles. The event highlights and honors the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community on the screen and acts as a way to protect these stories and make sure they always have a place to be told. This year the Gala was hosted by “Vida” creator Tanya Saracho and “Pose” star MJ Rodriguez. Both Latinx icons gave compelling talks about the importance of Queer Latinx’s in media.
“Immigrant and brown members of the LGBTQIA+ community have often been left out of not only the celebrations, of the commissions, but of the narrative in the media, in the industry, in this country. Of me being up here, I think the tide is changing,” Saracha said.
