LatinX: Why do you do what you do?
Alejandro: To inspire. I love encouraging people to get out of their comfort zone and explore the world. When someone looks at an image and says: “I want to go there”, I’m satisfied.
LatinX: What is your favorite or most inspirational place?
Alejandro: The mountains. The mountains challenge me and make me feel at home all at the same time. My most inspirational place is Iceland. You can see mountains, a waterfall, a glacier, a rainbow, and the ocean, all at the same moment.
LatinX: Where are you from and where do you live?
Alejandro: I’m originally from Lima, Peru. After exploring over 20 countries I ended up living in the beautiful mountain town of Bend, Oregon. It’s a high desert town, that is a true adventure capitol.
LatinX: What kind of camera do you shoot with?
Alejandro: I shoot with a Nikon D750. I’ve been shooting with Nikons for 14 years now. I have used many lenses, but lately, I’ve fallen in love with the Sigma 35mm f/1.4
LatinX: What are you trying to capture with your photos?
Alejandro: The essence of the moment to evoke the feeling of the place, people and/or experience. There’s a story behind every picture: the time I had to wake up to capture it, people I was with, weather, etc.
LatinX: What role does the artist have in society?
Alejandro: Artists have the role of stirring up the status quo. Bringing to the surface different views, emotions culture to provoke deep thought. Artists have the power to influence society by changing opinions, imparting values and translating experiences. It’s a big responsibility.
LatinX: What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Alejandro: I worked as an IT Data Analyst for more than 12 years in the corporate world back in Lima. I also managed one of the top 15 boutique hotels in the world in the beautiful Lake Atitlán, Guatemala.
LatinX: What makes you angry?
Alejandro: People littering, or not respecting the environment.
LatinX: What superpower would you have and why?
Alejandro: I’d love to fly. So I don’t have to pay for flight tickets and just go anywhere I want.
LatinX: Name something you love, and why.
Alejandro: I love sunsets. There’s something about the light that surrounds me at that moment. It’s a warm feeling of joy and peace that is difficult to describe. But it’s there and I can connect with it.
