“Selena: The Series” – Who’s Ready?

Netflix has struck gold, guys!

In a YouTube announcement made earlier this week, the streaming service stated that it would be partnering with the Quintanilla family to produce a scripted drama titled Selena: The Series. The show will cover “the coming of age story following Selena as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music.”

While no official release date has been made, it’s been – no doubt – a thrilling week for Selena fans:

We haven’t got the confirmation on who will be playing Selena, but why not start by playing a few guessing games?

Selena Gomez is a very potential choice – after all, she was named after Selena herself.  Other brunette, Latina singers that could possibly fit the role include Camila Cabello, Becky G, and Jasmine Villegas. Amanda Solis, who played Selena in the docu-drama Murder Made Me Famous: Yolanda Saldivar, is another actress well-qualified for the role.

We can also consider Demi Lovato or Victoria Justice, who have both had prominent careers in the music and entertainment industry, so taking on this role would be appropriate for them as well. There’s also Naya Rivera (Glee), Emily Rios (Breaking Bad), Camila Mendes (Riverdale), and Francia Raisa (Grownish). Actress Jackie Cruz from Orange is the New Black could totally rock this role, too; she not only did a cover of “Como La Flor,” but also sang with Los Dinos at the Fiesta de la Flor.

Of course, we will never forget JLo’s breakthrough performance as Selena in the 1997 movie. But the reviving presence of the Tejano female superstar in entertainment today is a testament to the legendary icon she has become over the years.

Think you know who’s going to play the role of Selena? Let us know in the comment section below while I start bellowing the lyrics to “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” okay?
