2019 Golden Globe Nominations: Who’s on the List?

It’s officially awards season! Can you hear the internet buzzing? The 76th annual Golden Globe Award nominations were announced today during the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual ceremony. Let’s check out who will be on the red carpet come January 6th…

This year’s nomination list is decorated with some of the year’s most powerful films, with strong competition between indie and blockbuster hits. Movies like A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Black Panther received nominations for the title of Best Motion Picture – Drama, while Crazy Rich Asians, Vice, and Marry Poppins Returns are nominated for the title of Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

A few but mighty members of the Latinx and Spanish community received recognition in prestigious categories as well.

Lin-Manuel Miranda earned his first Golden Globe nomination for his supporting role in Mary Poppins Returns. 

Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón received three nominations: Best Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Motion Picture – Foreign Film, all  for his film Roma, a story following the lives of a middle-class family in Mexico City.

Antonio Banderas, a Golden Globe nominee veterangarnered his fourth nomination for his portrayal of Pablo Picasso in the second season of Genius, a series produced by the National Geographic.

Edgar Ramirez and Penélope Cruz both received nominations for Best Performance by an Actor / Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for their performances in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

And last, but not least, a special shout out to Miles Morales, who starred in Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse, now a contender for Best Motion Picture – Animated.

Social media exploded with #GoldenGlobe hashtag trends today with many fueled by celebratory tweets from the nominees themselves.
