Trump Impeachment Process Begins
As news of Trump’s abuse of power for political gain comes to light, United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the official inquiry into articles of impeachment today.
The explosive developments began on Sunday, September 22nd, when Trump discussed his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on July 25th of this year. Reports surfaced that Trump froze over 400 million in aid to Ukraine for defense against Russia ahead of his call in July.
“I said hold it up,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday, September 24th.
Although Trump asserts that he asked for this money to be held up because he wanted more European countries to contribute to the aid fund, officials at the state department and Pentagon say otherwise.
Unnamed informants in these departments reported that they were told Trump had “concerns” about corruption in the Ukraine, and wanted to hold aid pending further investigation.
“Ukraine’s got a lot of problems,” Trump is quoted as saying at the White House on Sunday, September 22nd. “The new president is saying that he’s going to be able to rid the country of corruption and I said that would be a great thing. We had a great conversation. We had a conversation on many things.”
Those “many things” may have included democratic presidential candidate hopeful Joe Biden, whose son, Hunter Biden, had business interests in Ukraine. Trump has claimed that Biden urged for the Ukrainian prosecutor in a case related to his sons business dealings to be fired in order to protect him. No such evidence has ever been found.
What is clear is that Trump “is looking” for Ukraine officials to investigate Biden’s son in a effort “to discredit” Biden in his effort to win the Democratic presidential nomination.
It is because of this action that Nancy Pelosi announced an official inquiry into impeachment of Trump on Tuesday, September 24th.
“The actions of the Trump presidency revealed the dishonorable fact of the president’s betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security, and betrayal of the integrity of our elections,” she said in her official announcement on Tuesday.
“Therefore, today I am announcing the House of Representatives is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry.”
This is actually the second step in the proceedings of a formal impeachment process. First, any member of the House may announce grounds for impeachment. Second, the speaker of the House announces whether to officially proceed with an inquiry, and names the committee to do so.
Nancy Pelosi has done that today.
Next, the committee that will investigate Trump will be named.
