South African Designer Mantsho Launches H&M Collab Today
The Mantsho label, which means “Black is beautiful” in designer Palesa Mokubung’s native Sesotho language, was established in 2004 and has since graced runways in the U.S., Greece, India, Jamaica, Nigeria, Botswana, and Senegal. Pernilla Wohlfahrt, Assortment Manager for Collaborations and Special Collections at H&M, recently scouted the designer for a one-of-a-kind collaboration, making Palesa’s authentic African craft available to their customers worldwide.
The designer is known for her skilled yet playful use of color and print—inspiring with whimsy and celebrating the female form through silhouettes that complement the feminine shape. The exclusive collection for the mass retailer features flowy, easy fitting cuts, frills, and gathers in a range of colors from blues, browns to blacks, hues of pink, and amber reds. Afrocentric accessories, including shoes, earrings, and a clutch bag, complete the versatile collection.
“This is my love letter to the world from Africa,” said Mantsho’s head of design, Palesa Mokubung. “I hope customers around the world will enjoy this ensemble of the stand-out pieces from my last three collections.”
The collaboration is available in the select U.S stores around the country, and online at hm.com today. Don’t miss it!
