#BeaconTuesday: The Community Justice Action Fund
Here at LatinX, we take the issues affecting our communities to heart. From fighting climate change to sending aid to help families torn apart at the border, we want to encourage everyone to do their part and get motivated.
This week, in light of the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting, we’re highlighting the Community Justice Action Fund, a nonprofit organization aiming to end gun violence within communities of color. CJAF is changing the conversation on gun violence prevention by leading with the people closest to the pain of everyday gun violence.
Since 2007, California has allocated $9 million a year to CalVIP – which funds community-based violence prevention programs. As the state continues to grow, so should the fund. CJAF is asking for Governor Newsom and the California State Assembly to adequately fund CALVIP (California Violence Intervention & Prevention) at the coalition’s request of $39 million, rather than lower amounts under consideration. If you live in California, call now to make sure Governor Newsom hears from constituents how important this is.
