El Chapo’s Son Released Back to Cartel by Mexican Military to Avoid Further Bloodshed

Bus on fire

The city of Culíacan in Mexico has seen an intense turn of events today. A violent shootout took over the city as the Mexican armed forces fought against aggressive Sinaloan drug cartel members as the gang attempts to retrieve their current leader, Ovidio Guzman Lopez, aka El Chapo’s son.

The military had previously captured and detained Guzman Lopez in an area north of Culíacan, but armed forces from the drug cartel majorly overwhelmed the government-backed group so much that Guzman Lopez was eventually released for the sake of civilian safety.

It is clear what kind of message the Sinaloa drug cartel wants to send: armed and dangerous, they are a group not to be messed with lightly. It is also clear that the the Mexican military does neither has enough nor the appropriate resources yet to take the notorious gang group down.
