Teen Abortion Advocate Officially Youngest Lawmaker in Latin America

“Chiquita no me digas,” (Don’t call me little girl) Ofelia Fernández told a pundit during a heated televised debate in late 2017, demonstrating her strength and potential from the start of her young career.
That moment proved to be the political juggernaut the teen activist needed, amassing 338,000 Instagram followers and gathering over 200,000 women in protest over the past year. “With sensitivity, sisterhood, and gathering together, we’re going to knock it all down,” Foreign Policy reported that she told the crowd at a recent and robust rally.
This week she has proven her word. While Ofelia’s leadership in Argentina’s movement to legalize abortion has yet to produce an official law, the 19-year-old became the youngest lawmaker in the history of Buenos Aires on Monday.
La Chiquita won her campaign for the capital’s legislature! Es re inspiradora, as they say in Argentina!
