What Is Día de Los Muertos?

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a celebration of life and death. The holiday originated in Mexico, but is celebrated in many Latin American countries all over the world. It is thought that this is the one night of the year that the dead can awake from their eternal slumber and celebrate with loved ones here on Earth. Grave sites are decorated and gifts are given at shrines called “Ofrendas.” Check out this beautifully colorful holiday in this video by National Geographic.
