‘Houston! We Have Lift Off!’: Ana Humphrey Wins Top Prize

Yesterday, astronomers announced evidence confirming the existence of the mathematical concept known as the black hole. As reported by VOX, it is located at “the center of the Messier 87 galaxy, some 55 million light-years away.” Here on earth, Ana Humphrey became the first Hispanic first-place Regeneron Science Talent Search winner in 20 years. Her focus? Space.

Ana plans on becoming an astrophysicist and the $250k prize will surely assist the aspiring scientist in achieving her goal of having an impactful career in STEM. At just 18-years old, her work has already garnered attention from experts and academics alike. The Society for Science & the Public told News4, “Her research could aid our understanding of the formation of planets and inform our search for life in outer space.”
