Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez came under fire on Tuesday after posting a video of herself on Instagram saying the n-word while singing the lyrics to the song “Ready or Not” by The Fugees. Realizing her mistake, Rodriguez quickly deleted the post, but it was too late: fans had already began sharing screen recordings of the post and took to social media to express their dissent.

In a new post following up on the “Ready or Not” video, the actress issues an apology to compensate her wrongdoing.

“I just wanted to reach out and apologize. I am sorry,” she writes. “I am sorry if I offended anyone by singing along to The Fugees, to a song I love, that I grew up on. I love Lauryn Hill. And I really am sorry if I offended you.”
