Film Review: Velvet Buzzsaw
I have no idea how no one ever talked about this Jake Gyllenhaal movie. Not only is this one of his craziest roles but it’s also a very unique way of using satire in a drama.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, this Netflix original is “a satirical thriller set in the contemporary art world scene of Los Angeles, where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce.”
The whole aesthetic of the film is modern, edgy and colorful while maintaining a grim tone. It reminds me of any movie by Tom Ford, in which the art direction plays a key element in the story. If you haven’t seen this movie, you should see it with an open mind, no prejudice and a glass of wine.
