“A Queer Love Story” Featuring “This Is Magic” Premiers Now!
This is Magic is officially this summer’s #1 jam. In a rave review Billboard Magazine called the new queer anthem by A Great Big World, “an enchanting love affair.” And now there’s a unique and beguiling visual story celebrating the beauty of queer love, one where stigma, discrimination or struggle doesn’t impede.
The production team led by director, Zen Pace, was dedicated to representation.
I think it’s critical for us queers to stand up for each other in whatever medium we use, whether it’s making videos, poetry, or writing bills. We have to give each other voices because we have been voiceless for so long. We come from a history of trauma, and a part of reclaiming, a part of pride, is taking up space and stepping into our own agency in order to shift the narratives that tend to be heteronormative.
I want every queer to know they are loved. That there is a place, a person, who will hear and see them the way they deserve. I want people like Nigel Shelby to feel safe, and that’s why making unapologetic queer art with a predominantly queer crew was essential to me, because it’s for you all, for us, to know we belong. Straight people have been narrating our lives for far too long, so it’s about time for us to push through.
Inspired by singer Chad King’s own true romance, the video follows trans model Oslo Grace and up-and-coming black queer model/actor Justice Jamal Jones as they journey through the ups and downs of a relationship. Oslo Grace, is making waves as a young non-binary model profiled by Vogue and Paper Mag, not to mention being listed in Them’s 23 Trans Models Making an Impact.
The stunning visuals are courtesy of director of photography Brandon Roots, whose cinematography credits include the breakout queer film Lavender, which premiered at Sundance & Tribeca and was recently acquired by Fox Searchlight.
