Disney Releases New Trailer for “Lion King”
Hakuna matata, guys.
Disney released its first (too short) teaser trailer for the new live action picture of The Lion King on YouTube. The video quickly climbed to the top list of trending videos this past weekend, surpassing over 42 million views and over 1 million likes.
In case you missed it, here’s the sneak peak here:
The Lion King is once of 2019’s most anticipated summer releases, and for good reasons.
It’s a star-studded cast. Donald Glover (Simba), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Eric Andre (Hyena) are set to star as the main characters in the film. James Earl Jones, the original voiceover Mufasa in the original version, is set to reprise his role again in this new adaptation. Acclaimed British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who many may recognize from Love, Actually, voices for the antagonist Scar. Last, but certainly not least, they’ve got Beyoncé playing Nala.
It has also been 14 years since the original movie came out, and those who grew up in the 1990s are eager to share this beloved story with the latest generation. The first Lion King performed so well in sales upon its release that it became the ninth highest-grossing films of all time; the new version aims to make similar results next summer.
Fans took their excitement to Twitter earlier this weekend by posting photos reenacting the iconic opening scene:
