CNN’s Redemption Project, Grab a Tissue
Listen, fam. I have confession to make.
This coming Sunday, CNN’s The Redemption Project will be back, and this time, I will be ready with a box of tissues. Why? Because the sucker punch of emotion this show brings left me beside myself. Don’t believe me? Watch the trailer below and try not to let it tug at your heart strings.
The program is an exploration of the human condition: why we harm, and how we can forgive. In the inaugural episode, Mariah Lucas, confronts her mother’s murderer. Even though she was just a toddler at the time of the 1993 incident, for which Jason Clark was tried and convicted, it is clear that she spent her life with looming question marks about her life. Her pursuit of closure frames the episode.
At first, it seems as though CNN’s Van Jones has bitten off more than he can chew. However, as the episode unfolds, it is clear to see that the dramatic payoff is very much worth the wait. It’s riveting, and a pleasant departure from the mind-numbingly awful cluster of reality TV that jams our queues. Perhaps programming like this can serve a purpose, and usher in a welcomed dialogue that is much lacking in our country today.
Catch The Redemption Project, on CNN, Sunday’s at 9pm ET/PT.
