ASAP Rocky: Guilty but Free

Today, judges in Stockholm found ASAP Rocky guilty of assault but did not sentence him to further jail time. The rapper already spent over a month in a Swedish detention center following the street brawl that led to his arrest on June 30. The rap star, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, was released pending his trial at the behest of celebrities like Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West, who were able to motivate Donald Trump to intervene.

Ever eager to win celebrity brownie points, Mr. Trump dispatched his special presidential envoy for hostage affairs, Robert C. O’Brien, who monitored the simple assault case bringing ASAP and two co-defendants home pre-trial on August 2. Despite Swedish officials, including the Prime Minister, pledging to honor the rule of law, it seemed clear Rocky would be found not guilty.
While a guilty verdict was the ruling of the day in Sweden, ASAP has already been enjoying his freedom back in America. Will he owe a debt of gratitude to the president? Is it worse to be indebted to the Kardashians, Kanye or Trump? Because all make me shudder. But, welcome home, Rock.
