Spilling The Tea: Social Media Breakups
People use social media to share life’s big moments. From promotions, engagements, and amazing vacations to cheating scandals, divorces and rock-bottom moments, social media sharing spans across all aspects of our lives.
You end up knowing about your 3rd grade bestie’s divorce, a former colleague’s miscarriage and your neighbor’s bout with food poisoning, all of which you wouldn’t have known unless you were actually friends with them.
When it comes to celebrities, however, the more tea that’s spilled, the better. And who doesn’t love a juicy celebrity break-up?
It all started with Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s “conscious uncoupling” statement in 2014. Since then, celebs have taken control of their breakup stories by making formal announcements on social media.
What can be more challenging for us commoners is dealing with post-breakup social media etiquette. Do you take the high road and unfollow? Or go heavy on the creep and post petty comments to incite a reaction?
