Jasmine Romero And The Magic Of Her Whimsical Collages
There are so many fabulous LatinX artists working on projects that we never get to see. Instagram is a great equalizer for finding art that connects with you and invites something new into your life. Recently I have been taken by collage art: the more whimsical, the better. Some of my favorite works have been created by Jasmine Dianne Romero, AKA @prim__cess, who invites pure magic into her collage work and illustrations.
Jasmine is a Peruvian-American multimedia artist from south Florida creating out of Jersey City. With her background as a music photographer, she has found her focus in collage and illustration work. What makes her art so special is how she plays with audiences’ perspectives on the occult, beauty, and feminism. She has been featured in Curensea, Girl Disco, and Make Muse Magazine, as well as various exhibitions. In her interview with Curensea, she tells us more about her creation process:
“My process for collaging is kind of like going for a bite to eat. You look at all your options and see what makes your taste buds react the most. When I see a texture, color, pattern, or even a fold I like, my brain screams “tasty!” I cut out all the yummy things, and then I figure out which of them should be friends. A lot factors into that. Color, shape, and mood. Sometimes I start with a clear concept, and sometimes I don’t. Collage can just happen. “
