Opening Ceremony Releases Spring 2020 Collection Featuring Exclusive Latinx Cast

Humberto Leon, Co-Founder and Creative Director of fashion line Opening Ceremony, released a series of photos on Instagram earlier this week titled “The Familia: A Portrait Series.” The shots are part of Opening Ceremony’s Spring 2020 Collection and feature an exclusively Latinx cast of artists, actors, chefs, designers, musicians, entrepreneurs, and other multi-hyphenates from the Mexican community.

Shot by Stefan Ruiz, the collection seeks to recognize these “inspiring and influential figures” who “exemplify the power of Mexican creativity today.”

As part of our ongoing Year of Mexico project, we are proud to present our Spring 2020 collection through “The Familia: A Portrait Series” by Stefan Ruiz, featuring inspiring and influential figures in the Mexican creative community. The series, shot in Los Angeles and New York, captures a cast of established and emerging individuals – artists, actors, chefs, designers, musicians, photographers, entrepreneurs, multi-hyphenates – that exemplify the power of Mexican creativity today. “Throughout our lives, and particularly through our Year of Mexico project, we have been privileged enough to witness the breadth of talent and soul that emanates from the Mexican community. In our current political climate, and at a most crucial time to celebrate diversity on both our home front and abroad, we decided to bring together friends new and old who pioneer conversation in the global cultural dialogue.” – @Humberto, Opening Ceremony’s co-founder and Creative Director. The collection features everyone from actress Jessica Alba, actor Raúl Castillo, drag queen Valentina, to chef Daniela Soto-Innes (pictured below), carrying expressions of unrelenting strength, accompanied by Opening Ceremony’s sleek and minimalistic monochromatic-colored pieces.

Every year, Opening Ceremony focuses on a different country as the company’s mail goal is to create a place that would cherish art, travel, and fashion. “The Familia: A Portrait Series” is part of the fashion line’s Year of Mexico campaign, where fashion pieces from Mexico City and Guadalajara are put to the line’s forefront.

The company also ties in its philanthropy work by partnering with Fondo Semillas, a nonprofit organization in Mexico dedicated to supporting women’s causes and working in local communities to push for gender equality.
