Ed Sheeran’s “No. 6 Collabs Project” Is Current and That’s the Problem
Ed Sheeran unleashed his latest album “No. 6 Collaborations Project,” filled with an underwhelming group of A-list collaborations. It’s not exciting, there’s nothing new, and all I’m wondering now is, “What ever happened to Ed Sheeran?”
The opening track is “Beautiful People feat. Khalid,” and it’s the best song of the album. The production is enticing and his voice blends surprisingly well with Khalid’s. Even if the all-too-familiar formula makes it feel like any song from 2018 that featured some kind of bass with tropical beats. Up next is South of the Border feat. Camila Cabello & Cardi B and I just can’t. There’s nothing interesting with this one, and it has the same melodic progression of his smash “Shape of You” but is definitely less “banger.”
For me, the highlights of the album are:
- Beautiful People (feat. Khalid)
- Best Part of Me (feat. YEBBA)
- Take Me Back To London (feat. Stormzy)
- I Don’t Want Your Money (feat. H.E.R.)
So yes, this album will probably dominate the streaming charts because the project as a whole has something for everyone: rap, trap, ballads and more. Don’t get me wrong, the songs feel current, but unfortunately that seems like the problem. I miss the Ed Sheeran that pushed the male pop world forward.
Take a listen below and let me know what you guys think.
