Demi Lovato’s Nudes Coinciding with Anti-Bullying Day is Ironic
An unknown group of individuals hacked singer and actress Demi Lovato’s Snapchat account on Thursday night and released multiple nude images, sparking outrage among Lovato’s fans.
The photos were quickly deleted after Lovato’s team regained control over the account, but it was too late to reverse the damage. Lovato has made valiant attempts to spread good influence since her return from rehab, having recently promised to promote body positivity by posting non-edited photos on Instagram. She has also gone through tragedy, having lost her good friend Thomas Trussell III to drug overdose.
The fact that such malicious act of cyber-bullying coincides with today’s Anti-Bullying Day is simply ironic. According to DoSomething.org, cyberbullying and social harassment are one of the most common forms of bullying in the United States, and StopBullying.Gov states that 15% of teenagers between 12-18 years old experience bullying online or via text.
The nature of cyberbullying can be persistent, hard to notice, and even permanent if not taken care of by those who have the courage to stand up for what is right. Let’s continue to create a safe online environment by protecting those threatened by online harassment and holding wrongdoers accountable for such actions.
