AIDS Foundation Honors Luis Fonsi with SOMOS Humanitarian Award
Latinx singer Luis Fonsi was honored with the SOMOS Humanitarian Award from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation at its fifth annual SOMOS Gala held in Miami last weekend.
The award acknowledges Fonsi’s philanthropic works with St. Jude Children’s Hospital and his contributions to help victims of Hurricane Maria through his own foundation.
In a moving acceptance speech, the singer says, “As a Puerto Rican, as a Latin living in the U.S., it is my responsibility to use my voice not just to sing, but also to ensure that the voices of those who need it the most are heard.”
Fonsi is “honored” to receive the award, but the real award for him is seeing children being taken care of and in good hands.
“The real award is seeing the face of a healthy, happy child. That’s my prize,” he continues. “My prize is to help. To be useful to others. To alleviate the pain some people carry.”
Gracias Luis Fonsi! Congratulations on your achievement and for making a beautiful difference in your community.
