Latinx Heritage Month Feature: Angela Quiroga

Angela Quiroga

Meet Angela Quiroga, a food enthusiast who finds her sweet spots within the local community and highlights them on her Instagram. Her special connection to food and culture has opened her palette beyond taste and smell—she has learned to celebrate the similarities as well as the differences through Latin-American cuisine. We are proud to share her story in this exclusive interview below.

How did you get into the industry? Is it a lot of hard work?

I originally started writing reviews on Yelp after visiting different restaurants. I love to eat and find more of the small mom & pop spots, as well as support small businesses locally.  Eventually, I started my Instagram account to document my visits and photograph the food and experiences. It was difficult at first, but once I was able to meet other foodies, opportunities opened up to attend events and discover new places.

What does it mean to be Latinx in this industry?

It’s important to support your culture in this industry. Latin food is progressively embraced in the US, but we still succeed best when we support each other. This is a great industry to celebrate our similarities and our differences—the Latinx culinary field is so diverse, and as foodies, we can use these opportunities to celebrate our culture.

I hear it’s National BBQ Day 🍖 so how can I not talk about my favorite cut of beef ever- brisket! & @martinsbbq puts out some nice slices of flavorful brisket, which I enjoyed with their perfect hush puppies! Make sure you ask for a sampler flight of their sauces so you can try them all! ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ 📍@martinsbbq- Nashville , TN.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀**********************************************⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀#martinsbbq #southernbbq #nashvilletn #musiccity #nashvillefoodie #nashvillefood #nationalbbqday #barbecue #bbq #brisket #meatlover #foodie #latinafoodie #southernfood #comfortfood #foodiesofinstagram #musiccityfood #tennessee #martinsbbqjoint #bbqsauce #eatthis #treatyoself #hushpuppies #instafood #goodfood

What’s something about yourself you’re most proud of?

I have been able to write a few blog posts for one of my favorite travel and food blogs, The Wandering Waven. I love being able to write and share about my experiences, and through that blog, I’ve been able to expand on that aspect of my foodie adventures.

Who helped you get where you are today?

Margot (The Wandering Maven) has been a great influence in my experience as a foodie and influencer. She is a strong and successful Latinx blogger and social media influencer in Orlando who has pushed me from the beginning of my Instagram. She has provided me with many opportunities to write on events and restaurants, and has helped me improve my photography and social skill set. She’s an amazing friend above all, and I look up to her accomplishments and her outstanding character.

What do you hope to see more in your industry?

I would love to see more Latinx in the midst of big media writing for large publications and organizing large scale events. Foodies and social media influencers are becoming more prominent in today’s social culture, and I would love to see more diversity and representation when I’m looking at who’s organizing many of these food events and reading articles on both local and nationwide happenings regarding the foodie scene. Being from South Florida, there is definitely more of a Latinx influence, but I would love to see that spread worldwide.
